Manchester United's Treble dreams are still alive after dumping Chelsea out of the Champions League with a 3-1 aggregate success.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, United grabbed the killer goal on 43 when Javier Hernandez turned home from close range. Chelsea threw on Didier Drogba for the ineffective Fernando Torres at the interval and he gave Chelsea a lifeline with a goal on 75 minutes - after they had been reduced to 10 men when Ramires was sent off - but within a minute United restored their cushion when Park Ji-sung rifled home.

Chelsea made a bright start with Torres heading wide and then teeing up Nicolas Anelka who fired a foot wide of goal.

United had to weather some real pressure but they were fortunate to see Frank Lampard shoot weakly at Edwin van der Sar following an excellent run from Florent Malouda. Van der Sar was called into action in an unusual area as he had to race off his line to time a tackle on Anelka to perfection following a sloppy piece of play from Nemanja Vidic.

Having rode out the storm, United came into the game and Hernandez had the ball in the net, glancing home an excellent header, but his celebrations were cut short by a flag for offside. But the Mexican was not to be denied and after John O'Shea had freed Ryan Giggs with a clever pass, the forward found space at the far post to bundle home from close range.

Giggs should have made the game safe but mistimed his header and after Ramires was dismissed for a foul on Nani, United were rocked when Drogba broke free and slotted beyond Van der Sar.

But just when it appeared Old Trafford was set for a grandstand finish, Park found himself in acres of space and set himself before slamming home to seal United's place in the semi-finals.

Barcelona secured their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League and a probable showdown with arch rivals Real Madrid after completing home and away victories over Shakhtar Donetsk .

Leading 5-1 from last week's quarter-final first leg at the Nou Camp, Barca weathered an early storm at the Donbass Arena before netting what would prove to be the only goal of the night through Lionel Messi just before half-time.

That was the FIFA Ballon d'Or winner's 48th competitive goal of what has been an incredible season and ensured there would be no slip-up by Pep Guardiola's side, who will meet Madrid in the last four unless Tottenham can overhaul a 4-0 deficit.

The result was also the ideal preparation for Barca ahead of Saturday's 'El Clasico' against Madrid at the Bernabeu, where the Catalan club defend an eight-point lead at the top of the Primera Division standings.
