Ferguson casts doubt over Hargreaves' future

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that midfielder Owen Hargreaves may have played his last game for Manchester United.

Hargreaves has played less than ten minutes since September 2008 after being plagued by a persistent knee injury.

He hobbled off with a torn hamstring against Wolves in his first (and only) appearance this season, and now his season has been written off with a shoulder problem.

"I don't see it at all; it's a shoulder injury that has put his season to an end to be honest," Ferguson said. "He has just carried bad luck all the time he's been here, so I'm pretty sure he won't be playing this season."

Hargreaves' contract expires at the end of the season, and Ferguson revealed the midfielder's future was in the balance following a meeting with chief executive David Gill.

"His contract is up at the end of this season," Ferguson said. "David had a discussion with the boy last week, but no more than that. We have to make a decision now."

Ferguson revealed Darren Fletcher was still a couple of weeks away from a return following a virus that has sidelined him for over a month.

"Darren Fletcher is back in training now," Ferguson said. "He is not doing a lot but he has put the weight back on, which is good. He is a couple of weeks away."
