Liverpool still the best in England - Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish insists there is no sadness attached to the fact that Liverpool may have gift-wrapped Manchester United's 19th league title, claiming the Anfield club are still the best in the world.

Defeat for Liverpool at Arsenal would have sent the Gunners within four points of United, with the pair still to meet each other before the end of the season. However, a Dirk Kuyt equaliser deep into stoppage time means United will have to drop at least six points to concede the title.

The Red Devils are now huge favourites to move past Liverpool with an unprecedented 19th league title, but Dalglish is not concerned, knowing his side still hold two more European Cups than their rivals.

"Sadness? In my eyes we are still the best club in English football, if not world football, so I am not very sad at that," said the Scot.

"The surprise is that they [Liverpool] have not won the title for a long time, that is the surprise, but it's not sadness, it's just a fact of life. They never acquired enough points in any season since 1991 to win it.

"They came close a couple of years ago when Rafa [Benitez] went close, had a fantastic record against the so-called top four, but just couldn't get it over the line."

Dalglish speaks with an air of confidence that suggests he believes he can return the glory days to Liverpool, and his record since taking over from Roy Hodgson backs his belief.

"That is four games - United, [Manchester] City, Arsenal and Chelsea. We only dropped two points and that was here. It will be fantastic to get back there [to the top], but you need to hit the standards other teams have set."
