Carlo Ancelotti predicts a bright future for Fernando Torres

Carlo Ancelotti has vowed to create a deadly strikeforce between Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba after the Spaniard finally ended his goalscoring drought.

Torres scored his first Chelsea goal after 14 games and 732 minutes in a Blues shirt, but Ancelotti insists he never lost faith in the £50 million striker.

And despite Torres' failure to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, Ancelotti is confident the partnership between Drogba and Torres will flourish.

"It was an important moment for [Torres]," Ancelotti said. "Now his future will be fantastic at this club.

"For him, it is a huge relief. He needed to score and, every time he didn't, the next game got harder.

"He showed great movement to take the chance. Given the way Didier played and with Fernando scoring, we have to try to get them to play together.

"It's just something that needs working on but, believe me, we will try to make this work."

Of the 15 games Chelsea have played since Torres signed, the Spain forward has only started up front with Drogba three times so far with the results mixed. High-profile home defeats to Liverpool in the Premier League and Manchester United in the Champions League sandwiched a 3-1 win at Blackpool.

Torres has started five games without Drogba, of which Chelsea won three, drew one and lost one; in the seven games Drogba has started without Torres, Chelsea have won five, drawn one and lost one.
