Redknapp blasts Spurs' 'idiot' critics

Harry Redknapp has reacted angrily to sections of the Tottenham support who have made clear their dissatisfaction with Spurs' recent slump, which has left them facing the prospect of no European football next season.

Tottenham's 1-0 loss at Manchester City on Tuesday ended their hopes of securing Champions League football next season, meaning they will be unable to emulate this year's achievements, when they reached the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition.

After the City defeat, Spurs have now won just one of their last nine matches in the Premier League, causing some fans to voice their disapproval on radio phone-ins, much to Redknapp's annoyance.

"The reaction doesn't hurt me. The reason I don't listen to phone-ins is because you're talking about idiots," he said. "Who rings up a radio station? My dad lived for football, went every Saturday, but he wouldn't pick up the phone to a radio station. It's absolute nonsense.

"They're idiots who don't even watch football. They say, 'We were rubbish today'. The guys on the radio ask them if they were at the game, and they say, 'No, I heard it on the radio'. When I start worrying about what they think, I'll be in trouble. 99.9% of people who go to Tottenham have loved everything they've seen. That's all that matters."
