Stoke manager Tony Pulis has escaped with a warning from the FA for comments made about referee Howard Webb.

Just a day after Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was warned over his future conduct for praising Webb before United's recent clash with Chelsea, Pulis has received a rap over the knuckles for similar comments.

Under FA rule E3, managers are not permitted to make remarks about referees before matches, even praise. Pulis has been reprimanded for his comments made about Webb before Stoke's FA Cup semi-final against Bolton last month.

"Howard is a great ref in my book, and certainly as good as there is," Pulis said. "We are pleased to have him. What makes him special is that little bit of an aura he has about him. He deals with players very well and I think most people in the game respect him."

"The FA has warned Tony Pulis as to his future conduct," said an FA statement. "The Stoke City manager's warning relates to his pre-match media comments prior to the FA Cup semi-final against Bolton Wanderers on April 17."
