Stockdale wedding sees Green make England return

West Ham United goalkeeper Robert Green has returned to the England fold, ending his brief hiatus from international duty.
Fulham understudy David Stockdale had originally been selected by Fabio Capello in the Three Lions' squad to face Switzerland in a Euro 2012 qualifier, but subsequently notified the Italian and his staff that he was due to be married just 24 hours prior to the game at Wembley.
The 25-year-old, who made ten appearances for Fulham this season, had been prepared to join up with the squad immediately after the ceremony but staff decided that would be unfair, paving the way for Green to return to the international squad.
"West Ham United goalkeeper Rob Green has been called into the England squad tonight [Tuesday] in place of David Stockdale," an FA statement read. "The Fulham 'keeper has a personal committment in the build up to England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday 4 June."
Green had been believed to have informed Capello that he wished not to be selected for the game, as he was due to become a father at the end of this month. The Italian was also reported to be wary of the 30-year-old's state of mind after suffering relegation with his club.
"Robert is a true gentleman as always, and while he would not let his country down, he has asked the FA to consider not selecting him this summer if he is not needed, as he wants to be there for the birth of his baby," a friend previously told ESPNsoccernet.
"As for quitting England, he has not mentioned that nor thought about it as far as I know. He has certainly not suggested this to the FA."
Nevertheless, after Stockdale's news England reached out to Green - who agreed to return for the game following consultation with his family, after seeing the birth of his child last week.
He will now join England No. 1 Joe Hart and West Bromwich Albion's Scott Carson in completing Capello's options in goal for the match next week.
