West Ham confirm Allardyce appointment

West Ham United have confirmed the appointment of Sam Allardyce as the club's new manager.
The club axed Avram Grant shortly after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed and a number of names were linked with the post.
Allardyce has been out of work since leaving Blackburn but he emerged as the favourite and reports suggest the club's board have pushed out the boat to land their man.
The Hammers are looking to rebuild following their relegation and Allardyce is looking forward to the challenge.
"I wouldn't have taken the job if I didn't think we could bounce straight back into the Premier League," Allardyce told the club's official website. "More than that, I wouldn't have contemplated the job if I didn't think there was the opportunity to build something substantial at West Ham."
