Arsenal sign Charlton youngster Jenkinson

Arsene Wenger's first signing of what he promises will be a busy summer is Charlton Athletic defender Carl Jenkinson for an undisclosed fee.

Jenkinson, 19, has made nine appearances for Charlton Athletic's first-team, mostly at right-back - although he can play in central defence.

While born in England, Jenkinson is also eligible for Finland and, after representing both countries at youth level, captained Finland Under-19s last season.

Standing at six foot one, Jenkinson fits the profile of taller signings that Wenger is aiming to capture this summer in order to make the club more resilient at set-pieces.

Meanwhile, Arsenal youngsters Benik Afobe, Chuks Aneke and Oguzhan Ozyakup have all pledged their future to the club by signing new deals.
