Newcastle United have wrapped up the capture of striker Demba Ba.

Ba scored seven goals in 12 appearances for West Ham, but was always likely to head for pastures new following the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League.

Newcastle were one of a host of teams linked with the striker and their gambit beat off competition, allowing Ba to pass a medical and sign a three-year deal.

Ba is the second signing of the summer following the capture of French midfielder Yohan Cabaye and manager Alan Pardew is happy with his piece of business.

"Demba made a great impression with West Ham last season and is a great signing for this club," Pardew told the club's official website of a player who will wear No. 19 next season.

"He has pace, excellent technical ability, is good in the air and, it goes without saying, has the ability to consistently find the back of the net. Moreover he has a great passion to play for Newcastle United."
