Reports in Portugal are claiming Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas will become the new manager of Chelsea.

Chelsea set out on their search for a new manager when Carlo Ancelotti was axed at the end of last season.

A host of big names were linked with the role, with Guus Hiddink believed to be the favoured option for owner Roman Abramovich.

Hiddink is in charge of the Turkey national team, but it seemed that he was edging closer to Chelsea and it was claimed last week that his appointment was imminent.

However, a fresh twist has emerged with the Portuguese news agency claiming Villas-Boas is set to be appointed.

There has been no comment from Chelsea, other than to say that they expect to have their new man in place before the end of June, and it remains to be seen if the latest report leads to an official announcement from Stamford Bridge.

Villas-Boas is one of the most promising managers in world football and has turned heads in leading Porto to domestic and European glory.

He is also believed to be on Inter Milan's radar as they are seeking a new manager following the departure of Leonardo.

Porto are braced for his departure, as president Pinta da Costa said: "Villas Boas has a contract and a clause of €15 million.

"If someone deposits €15million into our account and he wants to go, we can not do anything because it is something that is contractually specified."
