Liverpool owner cools Bridge link

Liverpool owner John Henry insists the club have no interest in signing players "of a certain age" and reassured fans over future arrivals.
Liverpool have made one big-money signing already this summer with the arrival of 21-year-old midfielder Jordan Henderson from Sunderland, but they have been linked with a host of other players including 30-year-old Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge.
However, Henry wrote on Twitter: "Speculation on players shouldn't include those of a certain age. We are not going to be successful by merely filling short-term needs at LFC."
With reigning champions Manchester United having already invested heavily in Phil Jones, Ashley Young and now David de Gea, many Liverpool fans are eager to see the club spend to help close the gap on their arch-rivals.
Henry, though, has no plans to panic-buy and indicated that he was confident deals will be completed before the close of the transfer window.
"Everything in sports is overpriced now - especially the cost of winning. But you make your choices based on a plan," he said. "Some things happen early and some late. The important thing is that things happen. Sometimes what you avoid is important."
Liverpool are expected to tie up a deal for 25-year-old Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam in the near future. The Blackpool Gazette reported on Wednesday that Adam has told his club he wants to move to Anfield.
