Arsenal are close to making their first significant signing of the summer as Gervinho undergoes a medical at Emirates Stadium.

The Lille forward was an integral part of last season's Ligue 1 title-winning side, but he is a huge admirer of the style of football played by Arsene Wenger.

Commenting about his imminent transfer on July 1, Gervinho told France Football: "I had no hesitation.

"I'm going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game."

Having failed with an initial £7 million bid, it is believed Gervinho's final transfer fee will be in the region of £10.5 million, as Wenger sets about ending a six-year trophy doubt.

Gervinho scored 15 times for Lille last season and is viewed by Wenger as the type of player who can play across multiple positions in his attack.

However, the Gunners are having to deal with yet more speculation surrounding Samir Nasri on Wednesday, after reports of an official enquiry from Chelsea.
