O'Shea heading to Sunderland for medical

Steve Bruce is closing in on a deal for John O'Shea, with the Manchester United defender due at Sunderland on Thursday for a medical.

Bruce has made a triple raid on Old Trafford for O'Shea, Darren Gibson and Wes Brown and he is closing in on the trio.

Brown is believed to close to a transfer and O'Shea now seems to have agreed to make the move as he has travelled to the North East for a medical.

The trio have found their opportunities at Old Trafford limited and Sir Alex Ferguson has deemed them surplus to requirements.

Bruce is keen to revamp his squad, having lost Darren Bent in January and Jordan Henderson this summer. O'Shea, Gibson and Brown would add Premier League experience to his ranks and deals for the defenders look close to being finalised.

And with Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner, Ji Dong-won, Keiren Westwood and Sebastian Larsson already on board, Bruce seems close to concluding his transfer dealings.
