Liverpool are set to complete the capture of Charlie Adam after he passed a medical at Anfield on Thursday.

The Reds agreed a fee with Blackpool on Wednesday and Scotland international Adam is expected to agree personal terms within 24 hours. He will become Liverpool's second significant signing of the summer after the capture of Jordan Henderson.

Kenny Dalglish made a personal effort to meet Adam at Anfield on Wednesday, ahead of what is expected to be a player-plus-cash arrangement to the value of £7 million.

Adam scored 12 league goals (19 in all competitions) and created nine for his Blackpool team-mates last season, and he will add a touch of class to a Liverpool midfield that has long had the reputation of being industrious rather than intricate.

He will join Glen Johnson, who signed a new contract on Wednesday, and the right-back is predicting a brighter future for the Reds.

"With the squad we've got now, the backroom staff and the way things are going, things are looking positive," said Johnson. "The club is looking to bring a few more players in, so the future is looking bright.

"We've made a couple of good signings already and with a few more we will be a right force in the coming season. I'm quietly confident. If we take it game-by-game I think we'll do well.''
