Tonio Liuzzi saved his Force India team thousands of pounds after he chased after a marshal who had stolen his steering wheel at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Liuzzi crashed out of Saturday's rainy qualifying when he aquaplaned on standing water. He emerged from his wreck of a car unhurt and put the steering wheel back, only for the marshal to run away with it.

The 28-year-old chased after the steward and relieved him of his newly-acquired memorabilia, estimated to be worth up to US$45,000 (£27,000). "The team has said to me: 'no matter what happens, never let the steering wheel leave your hands'," said Liuzzi.
