Former France international Sebastien Chabal has revealed the reasons behind his shock exit from Racing Metro.

The Top 14 Parisian side confirmed that the 62 Test international was leaving the side with immediate effect on Friday amid rumours of a fallout between Chabal and Metro coach Pierre Berbizier. And Chabal has confirmed these rumours saying: "I was not happy. The cause? Communication with Pierre Berbizier," he said. "It's the end of a long ordeal. It's the end of a long punishment."

Chabal was said to be keen on extending his stay with the Top 14 side but he will now have to find a new club. Although the former Sale back-row is sure to be in demand - with rumours of interest from France, Japan and the Southern Hemisphere - he has conceded that he expected to finish his rugby career with Metro.

"I am disappointed not to finish a good player in Racing," he remarked. "But I want to look ahead and not behind.

"I'm free of any contract. I'm free to sign immediately for another club. I'm going to give myself some time to think over my last stop. I thought it would be Racing-Metro. There'll be another one.

"I'll take my time to think, to make the good choice, not to muck it up and to have fun. Physically, I feel very, very good."
