Perpignan have confirmed that they have reached a short-term deal for ex-Wasps flyer Richard Haughton.

Their fullback Sofiane Guitoune faces six months out of action and they have moved quickly to bolster their options in the back three with the recruitment of Haughton for that half-year period. He was turning out for Wasps last season and has previously played for Saracens.

Haughton announced back in July that he was going to play for Champio0nship side Jersey this term but it seems that Perpignan have persuaded the team to part with what many perceive to be their star player.

The BBC reports that Haughton had a clause in his contract that allowed him to move to 'top level clubs' if there was the interest. "We're disappointed, but a player like Richard, who has played club rugby at the top level, was likely to attract interest of this kind," said Jersey director of rugby Ben Harvey. "We can't compete financially with a club the size of Perpignan.

"We've enjoyed having Richard in the squad for the past two months, other players have learned a lot from him and he will go with our best wishes."
