Bordeaux-Begles pulled off a hugely surprising result when they ran in five tries to defeat league leaders Toulon 41-0.

Ole Avei, Louis-Benoit Madaule, Matthew Clarkin, Lachlan Munro and Jefferson Poirot scored the tries against a Toulon side that contained Jonny Wilkinson, Matt Giteau and Steffon Armitage. The win is the south-west team's first in four months and allows them to climb out of the relegation zone.

Reigning champions Toulouse also slumped to a defeat to lowly Agen who finished with a 22-9 victory. Scrum-half Alexis Bales and Gert Muller crossed for tries, while fly-half Conrad Barnard landed three penalties.

Castres kept up their push for the top spots as they grabbed five tries when they saw off Stade Francais 44-13. Centre Romain Cabannes crossed twice and there were scores for fullback Romain Martial, wing Marc Andreu and prop Saimone Taumoepeau.

Bayonne meanwhile beat Perpignan 13-10, while Grenoble scored four tries they saw off Mont de Marsan with a 32-14.

On Friday Racing Metro inflicted a second consecutive defeat on Clermont Auvergne when they won a dour 12-6 contest.

Racing's Jonathan Wisniewski and Clermont's Brock James both kicked a brace of penalties, so that by just past the hour mark the teams were tied on 6-6. However, with Clermont beginning to tire having lost prop Raphael Chume to the sin-bin, Racing's pack began to put pressure on their counterparts and the result was two more penalties that Wisniewski kicked to wrap up the win.
