Italy are hopeful Mauro Bergamasco and Martin Castrogiovanni will be fit to face Scotland on Saturday.

Both players missed Monday's training session and are undergoing treatment to recover from their respective injuries. Castrogiovanni is struggling with a heel problem in his right foot while Bergamasco sustained a knock on his left thigh in his team's 30-10 loss to France.

"We are approaching this week with focus and calmness," Italy team manager Luigi Troiani said. "We are aware that the expectations regarding our home game against Scotland are high. We are coming off two games in which we have displayed good things but struggled to be consistent.

"This is something we will have to improve on against Scotland. Regarding Castrogiovanni and Bergamasco, we are looking to have both of them back in training with the rest of the group on Thursday."
