Montpellier coach Fabien Galthié will remain in his job, despite reports to the contrary over the weekend, after he received the unanimous backing of the playing staff.

On Saturday, Galthié was rumoured to have parted with ways with the club after a sixth consecutive defeat against Bath at home on Friday. During that run, forwards coach Mario Ledesma resigned and backs coach Stéphane Glas had his offer of resignation turned down.

Legendary France scrum-half Galthié appeared to be on his way after a crisis meeting with president Mohed Altrad on Saturday, before senior players, including François Trinh-Duc, Fulgence Ouedraogo and Ben Mowen met the president on Sunday and insisted Galthié stayed.

Galthié, who is contracted until 2017, was present at training on Monday and appears to have survived for the time being. There are reports that he has until January 3 to haul Montpellier into the Top 14's top 6 (they are currently eighth).

Just a couple of months ago, Galthié was considered a front-runner to take over from Philippe Saint-André as France coach, while he remains in contention to succeed Jacques Brunel as Italy coach.
