Gio Aplon is set to become the next Springboks star to play club rugby in France, with Midi Olympique reporting the Stormers winger is "close to signing" a contract with Grenoble.

Fabrice Landreau, the Grenoble forwards coach, told Midi Olympique that Aplon had "an interesting profile" as he had "a large experience with the Springboks". Aplon has not played a Test since 2012, however, and he seems unlikely to be considered for Rugby World Cup 2015.

Landreau, meanwhile, denied speculation that Grenoble were close to signing Blues and All Blacks centre Francis Saili.

The New Zealander made his Test debut in 2013, featuring for the All Blacks against Argentina in The Rugby Championship and against Japan in Tokyo on the end-of-year tour.
