Barkley on verge of Grenoble exit

Former England international Olly Barkley's days at Grenoble appear to be numbered with director of rugby Fabrice Landreau admitting they do not share the same " concept of rugby".

Barkley joined Grenoble at the start of the current season after he spent part of the 2012-13 campaign with Racing Metro. But the club say Barkley has struggled to fit in with their style of rugby and he is likely to leave at the end of the season.

Grenoble boss Landreau told Rugbyrama: "It's a big failure to not having been able to properly integrate into our team project "He is a very professional guy, very polite, very gentlemanly.

"Unfortunately, we do not have the same concept of rugby. He is disappointed with our game. He wants a much more one stereotypical game, much more organised. He wasn't able to find its place."

Franck Corrihons, backs coach, added: "It is a disappointment for us, but especially for him. Unfortunately, he never managed to blend in. He had several opportunities early in the Top 14 season and Amlin Cup, but he never managed to leave his mark."

Barkley has since been linked with a potential move back to England with Bristol, Worcester Warriors and Newcastle showing some interest.
