James O'Connor has reportedly signed a deal with French big-spenders Toulon.

Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal confirmed the deal on Thursday, according to reports in the French press. O'Connor will compete the current campaign with London Irish before switching to the Top 14.

The details of the move are yet to be revealed but if O'Connor has signed for the entire 2014-15 season, it will place his 2015 World Cup prospects for Australia in serious doubt. Original reports suggested it was a one-year deal.

O'Connor had previously suggested he was keen to journey back to Australia in time for the 2015 Super Rugby season to keep his Wallabies' prospects alive.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie said he would only consider players for World Cup duty if they had an entire Super Rugby campaign under their belt.
