Toulon's miserable start to the Top 14 campaign continued as the European champions fell to their second successive defeat, losing 24-9 at Castres on Sunday.

Bernard Laporte's side have started their season with back-to-back losses for the first time in 10 years, having fallen 27-22 at home to Racing Metro in last weekend's season opener.

Rudi Wulf, Alex Tolou and Julien Seron all crossed over for Castres, while home fly-half Ben Urdapilleta added a further nine points with the boot. Jonathan Pelissie kicked all nine points for Toulon.

Gaetan Germain inspired Brive to a 22-13 victory over Stade Francais on Saturday. The fullback kicked five successful penalties and converted a penalty try for a haul of 17 points. Avenisi Vasiunubu scored a late try for Stade, which Jules Plisson converted to add to his two earlier penalty goals.

Racing Metro remain unbeaten in their start to the new season following a tense 20-19 victory over La Rochelle. Tries from Camille Chat and Chris Masoe ensured Gabriel Lacriox's early score for the visitors was wiped out as Metro moved into a 20-10 lead. However, three penalties from Zack Holmes made for a frantic finish but the hosts held on for the win.

Samuel Marques kicked 21 points as Pau enjoyed a 26-16 win against Montpellier. Julien Fumat grounded for the hosts, while Timoci Nagusa and Charles Geli both crossed the whitewash for the away side.

Elsewhere, Oyonnax scored four tries to Bordeaux's one to claim a 37-19 victory, while Cory Flynn and Toby Flood starred in Toulouse's 20-9 win at Agen. Friday's fixture saw Clermont record a 25-6 triumph against Grenoble.
