Cardiff Blues staged a brilliant comeback to beat Montpellier and claim a bonus-point 37-27 victory in Friday's European Challenge Cup clash at Arms Park.

The home side started rapidly with Rhys Patchell crossing over inside the opening minute of the match, but Montpellier hit back with three tries from Jamie Mackintosh, Timoci Nagusa and Julien Malzieu to take a healthy lead.

The Blues hit back through Josh Navidi on the cusp of halftime, before further efforts from Lloyd Williams and Alex Cuthbert moved Cardiff back in front. Navidi's second ensured the Blues completed a superb comeback to clinch victory.

With the last kick of the game, Patchell ensured the visitors missed out on returning to France with two bosing bonus points. Victory moves Cardiff level on points with Harlequins at the top of Pool Three.

Elsewhere on Friday, Connacht made it three wins from three group matches as they enjoyed a 25-10 victory over Newcastle.

Jack Carty kicked 20 points while Danie Poolman's late try denied the Falcons a losing bonus-point. Connacht remain top of Pool One, with Newcastle second ahead of Brive.

In the night's earlier match, La Rochelle moved second in Pool Four with a 27-19 victory over Zebre.
