Adam Ashley-Cooper and Sekope Kepu grabbed Australian bragging rights as Bordeaux Begles upset Toulon in the Top 14 on Sunday.

Recently-returned Australia Sevens hopeful Quade Cooper and Toulon team-mate James O'Connor could do little in a dour tryless affair, while Drew Mitchell also struggled for impact after coming on as a replacement in the 51st minute.

Former Blues fly-half Simon Hickey was the star of the show for Bordeaux, the diminutive playmaker kicking four penalties to pilot his side throughout the contest.

But it was a late penalty from another New Zealander, All Blacks great Ma'a Nonu, that gave Bordeaux the chance to snatch the victory; scrum-half Baptiste Serin converting the three to secure the 15-12 triumph.

Toulon were again without star Australian playmaker Matt Giteau, the 102-Test veteran still recovering from the groin surgery he underwent earlier this year.
