Montpellier fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc has signed a new contract to keep him at the Top 14 side until 2014.

The 35-cap French international came off the bench in the World Cup final but was unable to prevent France falling to the All Blacks. But despite losing his place in the national side to Morgan Parra, he is a constant feature in the Montpellier team who were runners-up in the Top 14 last season. The 25-year-old joins club captain and fellow France international Fulgence Ouedgraogo in committing his future to the side with Julien Tomas also signing on.

And Trinh-Duc revealed that one of the key reasons behind his decision to stay at Montpellier was coach Fabien Galthie. "I [initially] signed for only one year in the knowledge that someone would succeed Marc Lièvremont at the French national team and Fabien Galthié was in the running to replace him," Trinh-Duc told Midi Libre. "My condition for staying was that Fabien stayed at Montpellier. Since he was not chosen as [France] selector, I took my option for two more years."

"I've won regularly alongside Fabien," he told Midi Olympique. "He brings the skills that help me better understand the game and find solutions when things get complicated. We need that at Montpellier."
