France will come face-to-face with Samoa for just the third time when the two teams clash at the Stade de France on Saturday.

Their first meeting came on Samoan soil in 1999, when the French were 39-22 winners in front of 15,000 fans at Apia Park. Thomas Castaignede started at fly-half and picked up 19 points thanks to a try, two penalties and four conversions.

France's other tries came from Pierre Mignoni, Olivier Magne, Eric Artiguste and Marc dal Maso. The home side felt the wrath of Welsh referee Clayton Thomas as wing George Leaupepe and hooker Trevor Leota were both shown red cards.

And they then met in 2009 with France securing a convincing 43-5 triumph. They crossed for seven tries with fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc grabbing a brace.
