France will have to do without centre Wesley Fofana after it was revealed he fractured a rib in the closing stages of the defeat against Wales last Friday.

His club Clermont Auvergne said medical examinations showing he fractured the 11th rib on the right side of his body and that they expected him to be sidelined for up to a month. It means he will miss the Scotland game on March 8 and the Ireland match a week later.

Fofana has been a key man in France's back line and he has worked well with Mathieu Bastareaud. He is likely to be replaced by Toulouse's Gael Fickou.

France are level on points with Ireland, England and Wales after three matches.
