Last season's semi-finalists ran in three first-half tries via Arthur Bonneval, Imanol Harinordoquy, and Yann David to claim a 24-7 win against the visitors, who were reliant on a penalty try for their solitary score. Elsewhere, last season's runners-up Clermont kicked off their season with a comprehensive 44-6 thrashing of La Rochelle. Among Clermont's five try-scorers was new boy David Strettle, who touched down just after the half-time break. Joining him on the scoresheet was fellow Englishman Nick Abendanon, with Paul Jedrasiak, Julien Bardy, and Arthur Iturria adding tries of their own. Bordeaux Begles survived a second-half fightback by 2014's beaten finalists Castres to claim a 19-16 victory in the battle of the play-off contenders. Blair Connor touched down for Bordeaux's only try on 22 minutes before Benjamin Desroches ensured a nail-biting finish by crossing for Castres just seven minutes before the full-time whistle. In other results, Montpellier ran in five tries to record a 35-19 victory over Oyonnax, while Grenoble enjoyed a 38-23 success against newly-promoted Agen. © ESPN Staff
