Agen have shown the door to the troublesome Rupeni Caucaunibuca following his latest unauthorised absence from the Top 14 club.

The mercurial Fijian wing, a star of the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, failed to appear for pre-season and was swiftly informed that he no longer had a role to play upon his eventual return for talks with president Alain Tingaud and team manager Christian Lanta on Monday.

The 30-year-old's absence was accompanied by reports that he was undergoing treatment from a natural healer for a shoulder injury. He returned to international action for Fiji in June as they took on Australia in Canberra, winning his first Test cap since 2006, and was also linked with a possible Super Rugby contract at the Brumbies.

Agen showed admirable determination and no little flair on Sunday to overhaul a 20-point deficit in their 23-23 draw with Perpignan and Lanta signalled their intention to release Caucau in his post-match interview.

"Our performance in the second half proved that there's no place at Agen for Rups," he told La Montagne.
