Berbizier in trouble for ref criticism

Racing Metro general manager Pierre Berbizier could feel the wrath of French rugby's authorities after his public criticism of referee Christophe Berdos.

French Rugby Federation (FFR) president Pierre Camou and Ligue National de Rugby (LNR) boss Pierre-Yves Revol have called for Berbizier to face disciplinary action after his continued condemnation of the official.

Berdos took the whistle for Racing's weekend win over Top 14 newcomers La Rochelle, with Berbizier apparently still harbouring a grudge over his side's exit from last season's play-offs.

The former Italy coach publicly held Berdos responsible for his side's loss to Clermont Auvergne in May and while he escaped punishment on that occasion, he will be forced to face another disciplinary panel after his latest outburst.

"I have no pleasure in crossing paths with this person. I've had no contact with him and don't want any," he told a press conference.

Following defeat to Clermont, he raged against Berdos' decision to sin-bin lock Santiago Dellape for an off-the-ball altercation with Morgan Parra, also openly taking a shot at Revol.

"You can't get away from the fact that the game changed," he told Sudradio. "Mr. Berdos turned the game with the yellow card. I don't know what he's been doing but his refereeing has been very, very severe. My players did not deserve it. We are asked to respect referees but you understand it will be difficult after that. I will never respect Mr. Berdos again."
