William Servat has handed France boss Marc Lievremont an injury headache prior to their Rugby World Cup warm-up campaign, with the Toulouse hooker out for four to six weeks with a knee injury.

The 33-year-old limped out of Toulouse's Top 14 Final victory over Montpellier on Saturday after half an hour and while initial reports suggested that he had merely suffered bruising, the actual extent of the damage has now been revealed.

He will undergo surgery in mid-June before a recovery period of just over a month, leaving Lievremont without his first-choice hookers as Dimitri Szarzewski is also currently sidelined with an Achilles problem.

"He will not be able to run at best before mid-July," France doctor Jean-Philippe Hager told AFP.

Should either Servat or Szarzewski fail to make the cut, Perpignan's Guilhem Guirado will be promoted to the squad. France begin their World Cup preparations on June 28 and play two warm-up Tests against Ireland in August.
