Serge Betsen has signed a one-year contract extension with Guinness Premiership side Wasps.

The legendary French flanker, who will turn 36 this week, has opted to remain at Wasps in what is a major boost for the club as they go in search of a play-off place.

Betsen won 65 caps for France and played for Biarritz for 17 years prior to his decision to extend his playing career in England.

"Betsen is a rugby legend and has quickly become a Wasps favourite with fans," director of rugby Tony Hanks said. "He has continued the trend of established world class players like [Rob] Howley, [Craig] Dowd, [Matt] Dawson and [Raphael] Ibanez, joining Wasps near what has been perceived to be the end of their careers, yet rejuvenating their form and ambition in the game.

"He is a leader and a great ambassador for the club and we are delighted he will wear black and gold for another season."

The club have also announced new contracts for a trio of youngsters. Hooker Joe Ward, flanker Will Matthews and prop Ben Broster have all agreed new two-year deals.
