Stade Francais prop David Attoub will take his appeal against a 70-week gouging ban to the French National Olympic and Sporting Committee (CNOSF) after the French Rugby Federation (FFR) confirmed that he was not permitted to play in French competitions. Attoub was handed the ban in January for gouging flanker Stephen Ferris in Stade Francais' Heineken Cup defeat to Ulster in December 2009. European Rugby Cup (ERC) disciplinary officer Judge Jeff Blackett described Attoub's actions as "the worst act of contact with the eyes that I have had to deal with: it is a case of deliberate eye gouging." He is unable to play before April 22, 2011, but will take his appeal as far as possible according to his lawyers. In March his appeal against the original ERC verdict was dismissed as he could not prove that the decision had been made in error. © Scrum.com
