Force 'getting better technically, mentally, physically'

Western Force are less inclined to linger on impressive victories such as their shock dismissal of the reigning champion New South Wales Waratahs at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Sunday.

"There is definitely belief growing in the club," Force coach Michael Foley said after his team had stunned the Tahs. "We've got to keep moving forward. I think the team is getting better. We're getting better technically, I think we're getting better mentally, we're definitely getting better physically."

Foley attributed his team's win to their defence, saying "I take my hat off to the courage that was shown out there today … the defence was magnificent," Foley said.

"Our defence earned us that win and I think to suggest that [NSW] would be complacent would be off the mark. They showed a lot of maturity in the first part of the game because there was a few things that didn't come off for us and we stayed composed."

Acting captain Sam Wykes was more intent on looking ahead to next Saturday's game against Queensland Reds in Brisbane than savouring and talking up one of his team's most significant wins in recent memory.

"We've a tough game next week against the Reds," Wykes said, noting the Reds would be smarting after their big loss to the Brumbies on Friday. "They are going to bounce back from their performance last Friday night."

Wykes the focus on tomorrow rather than today was "probably the difference where we've come a long way", Wykes said.

"We haven't celebrated our wins too much. Like when we got those wins last year, and the same this time. We've just got to move on to the next job. Trying to earn respect is our biggest thing and that's what we'll keep trying to do."

Foley, meanwhile, said that he was still open to being part of Wallabies coach Michael Cheika's Rugby World Cup campaign, though nothing was finalised after they had a brief chat on Saturday and they would talk again.

"One of the dramas of this playing out publicly is players who are really focusing on what they were doing at a provincial level to earn the right into the Wallabies, can see Michael and I talking about it and be distracted by that," Foley said. My focus is 100% on the Force and obviously very honoured that Michael would consider talking to me about it."
