Former All Black scrum-half Justin Marshall has been suspended by his club, Top 14 side Montpellier, after refusing to take to the field as a late replacement last weekend.

Marshall refused to enter the fray in the latter stages of Montpellier's 34-0 loss to Toulouse at the Stade Ernest Wallon.

"We will make a decision about his future in the coming days," Montpellier General Manager Denis Navizet told AFP.

Marshall joined Montpellier from Magners League side Ospreys last summer, having moved to the northern hemisphere for a stint with Leeds in the Guinness Premierhship. Marshall won 77 New Zealand caps during a glittering international career and also won four Super 12 titles with the Crusaders before journeying north.
