Toulouse scrum-half Byron Kelleher has been ruled out of action for six weeks after picking up a knee injury in his side's Top 14 defeat to Biarritz.

The league-leading Toulouse were beaten 17-13 at the Parc des Sports Aguilera in Biarritz to bring an end to their 11-match winning streak in the Top 14 and the defeat came at further cost with the loss of their influential No.9.

Kelleher limped off the field ten minutes before the end of the game after his left buckled under heavy tackle. However, coach Guy Noves revealed that the injury was not as bad as first thought.

"Byron had a scan which revealed he had sprained his knee but the ligaments were not ruptured. He will need about six weeks to recover," Toulouse coach Guy Noves told Reuters.

The former All Blacks scrum-half, capped 57 times by his country, is expected to be fit for Toulouse's crucial Heineken Cup quarter-final clash with Cardiff Blues on April 11.

Despite losing to Biarritz, Toulouse continue to lead the Top 14 after nearest rivals Perpignan and Stade Francais battled to a 13-13 draw in Paris. That game saw another injury to a key New Zealander with Perpignan fly-half Dan Carter suffering a season-ending recurrence of an Achilles tendon injury.
