The Bulls have received a major boost ahead of the Super 14 season with the news that Springbok scrum-half Fourie Du Preez will be fit for their opening game against the Reds on February 14.

Du Preez was feared to have broken his hand during the pre-season loss to the Cheetahs, but it has been revealed following an x-ray that the 43-times capped No.9 has suffered only severe bruising to his thumb and will be ready to take his place at the base of the Bulls scrum.

"Fourie will therefore be able to play against the Reds, but he will not take part in the contact sessions that are scheduled for the rest of the week," said Bulls team doctor Org Strauss.

Du Preez was instrumental as the Bulls became the first South African side to lift the Super 14 trophy in 2007, and went on to help the Springboks to World Cup glory in October the same year with their 15-9 win over England at the Stade de France.
