Na shares lead in Las Vegas despite 'air-shot'

Nick Watney and Kevin Na share the lead going into the final round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, after an eventful third round on Saturday.

Watney, arguably the biggest name in the field for the first event of the PGA Tour's 'Fall Series', underlined his status with a blemish-free round at TPC Summerlin, carding a seven-under par round of 64 to move to 17-under.

Na, the overnight leader, looked to be on course for an even better round after he reached the turn four-under on the day, but he was only able to pick up a solitary shot against par on the back nine to go into the final round against Watney on a level footing.

The American had to survive a moment of drama on the 15th tee, however, after he appeared to miss the ball completely with his opening tee shot. However, Na immediately insisted that he had not felt comfortable with his backswing and so had pulled out of the shot before impact - an explanation that tour officials were happy to accept after viewing a number of television replays.

"I do it every time [I play], probably one or two a round," Na said afterwards. "I already did it on the front nine with an iron, and nobody talked about that.

"There's two ways I do it. I take it back; it doesn't feel good and then I stop. I'll take a step back. And the other time is I'll take it back; it feels decent, and my transition is what I'm always working on. It's always my bad habit is I get quick. And on the way down my transition doesn't feel right, and I try to stop, and obviously it's impossible for me to stop. The only way for me to stop is I have to come up and go over the ball."

Watney and Na will not have it all their own way on Sunday, however, with a number of players within striking distance. Robert Garrigus and Kris Blanks are the nearest challengers - the pair a shot back at 16-under after rounds of 63 and 66 respectively.

Tommy Gainey, Paul Goydos and Tim Herron are all 15-under, with Jhonattan Vegas and Spencer Levin just inside the top ten heading into the final 18 holes.
