Rory Mcllroy has revealed that girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki has proved to be a dab hand on the golf course.

The world No. 2, who is playing at the Hong Kong Open this week, could miss the event next year after switching to the PGA Tour, a decision made in part by his relationship with tennis No. 1 Wozniacki.

The Dane was spotted supporting McIlroy at the HSBC Champions event in China last month, while McIlroy has been a regular in the stands at a number of Wozniacki's tournaments this year.

"I've just finished my schedule for next year up to the Ryder Cup and it is built around trying to find a balance that will let me give my best while allowing me to spend some weeks with Caroline," McIlroy said.

McIlroy also revealed that Wozniacki had recently invested in a new set of clubs and had proved to have a natural aptitude for golf.

"She had a lesson - not from me, I hasten to add - and by the end was hitting a seven iron 140 yards," McIlroy said. "She's going to be Dubai again next week and is threatening to bring a whole set of clubs this time. Who knows? She could be quite a tidy player by this time next year."
