Davis soars to a share of top spot

England's Brian Davis moved to the top of the leaderboard at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut after signing for a third-round 64.

Davis made the most of an early start following the rain delays which prevented the majority of the field from completing their second round on Friday.

Shooting a stunning 29 at the turn, Davis recorded his first, and only, bogey of the day at the par-five 13th. His six-under was the round of the day on Saturday as he moved to 12-under for the tournament.

Also in a share of the lead is American Roland Thatcher, who followed up his second-round 67 with a five-under 65. Thatcher appeared certain to finish as overnight leader, but was left to rue a bogey at 17 which allowed Davis to claim a share of top spot.

Thatcher's compatriots James Rollins and James Driscoll, along with Australia's Stuart Appleby, lead the chasing field at 10-under. Rollins was another big mover on day three, and he too had the opportunity to surge to the top of the leaderboard, but for double-bogey on the eighth.

Padraig Harrington is a further stroke back after his third-round 65. Four consecutive birdies saw the Irishman hit 32 at the turn as he remains in contention for his first win on the PGA Tour since 2008.

Overnight leader Frederik Jacobson also sits on nine-under, as does Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark, Charley Hoffman and Will Claxton.

2012 Masters winner Bubba Watson moved to eight-under, following a seven-birdie 65, while recently-crowned US Open champion Webb Simpson is another shot behind after struggling to find his rhythm on the greens.

Englishmen Gary Christian and Ian Poulter made the cut but remain well off the pace at four-under and three-under respectively.
