US Open champion Webb Simpson will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Greenbrier Classic as he looks to pick up his second victory of the 2012 season.

Simpson, who claimed his maiden major triumph at Olympic Club just last month, took a while to get going at The Old White TPC but picked up steam on the back nine of his round - eventually carding a round of 65 to move to 14-under for the tournament.

The 26-year-old had four birdies in his final six holes, a run of play that gives him a healthy headstart heading into Sunday's final round.

Ahead on the leaderboard, Simpson will also have the advantage in top-level experience - with his nearest challenger being tour journeyman Troy Kelly. The 34-year-old may lack for prestigious victories but he clearly does not have any problems with the course in West Virginia, firing an eight-under par third round to leapfrog to 12-under.

Three players are tied at 11-under - JB Holmes, Charlie Beljan and Ken Duke - with Ted Potter Jr chasing hard at ten-under.

Elsewhere, the legendary Tom Watson had a difficult day - shooting 71 to slip towards the foot of the field at one-under for the tournament.
