American John Mallinger will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Frys.com Open, as Nicolas Colsaerts saw his hopes of victory slip away on Saturday in California.

Mallinger saw his four-shot advantage cut in half at CordeValle, as rookie Jonas Blixt pulled back into contention with a five-under par round. The Swede is now 13-under for the tournament, two shots behind Mallinger's 15-under mark.

"I think the biggest thing is just staying patient," Mallinger said afterwards. "I still have the lead, which is a good thing."

Charles Howell III is just a shot further adrift at 12-under, while past major winner Vijay Singh is firmly in the mix at 11-under - one shot ahead of Englishman Greg Owen.

European Ryder Cup player Colsaerts is unlikely to be in the mix come Sunday afternoon, however, after a scrappy start to his third round cost him dear. The Belgian made two early birdies to spark hopes of a challenge but then was five-over par in a four-hole stretch - a run of mistakes that quickly dropped him out of contention.

Two late birdies got him back to level-par for the day but, at nine-under overall, he will need a fast start on Sunday if he is to have any chance of catching Mallinger.
