Open champion Ernie Els will be absent from the final European Tour money list for the first time in 15 years after his name was removed on Monday.

Els, who had been sixth on the "Race to Dubai" following Ian Poulter's triumph at the WGC-HSBC Champions at the weekend, is no longer eligible to stay on the Order of Merit due to his lack of appearances on the Tour this season.

European Tour members are expected to play in 13 counting events during the calendar year, but Els has played only 10. The South African could still have reached the target had he played in this week's Singapore Open, but he is currently not scheduled to appear again until the Iskandar Johor Open on December 13.

It means the 43-year-old will not compete for the £5 million DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, set to take place in two weeks' time. Els also does not qualify for a share of the £2.4 million end-of-season bonus pool.

Rory McIlroy leads the money list by over £616,000 from Peter Hanson as he aims to complete the PGA and European Tour double.

However, Els' removal has a more direct impact on England's Lee Slattery, who moves to No. 60 on the list as a result. The top-60 players at the end of next week qualify for Dubai.
