Weather wreaks havoc with Singapore schedule

Organisers face a headache as they bid to get the Singapore Open finished on time, after play at the tournament was suspended due to bad weather for the second successive day.

With none of the 150 players still in the field at Sentosa Golf Club managing to complete their second rounds on Friday, play was postponed for the second day in a row as heavy rain and the threat of lightning brought competitors off the course.

Players will return to Sentosa on Saturday morning to continue proceedings with some players, still to even start their second rounds, facing the prospect of completing 36 holes in the day - if the weather does not wreak havoc once again.

Englishman Simon Dyson is likely to be the happiest man in the field, as he sleeps on the lead at six-under. Following an opening round 69, Dyson reached four-under in his second round before weather pulled him off the course after the 13th.

He is tied with Chapchai Nirai, who has completed four fewer holes, while the Italian duo of Matteo Manassero and Francesco Molinari are firmly in contention at five-under with a handful of holes each still to play.

Overnight leader Thomas Bjorn also remains on five-under, having yet to even start his second round.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy was one of the players out early to try and complete his first round - the Northern Irishman carding a one-under par round of 70 before getting through 12 holes of his second without picking up another shot.

"Hopefully we got the good side of the draw, and can get 18 holes in this afternoon and then have a bit of a rest between the second and third rounds," McIlroy, who was struggling with a cold, said after completing his opening round.

"I actually played pretty well from tee to green, just didn't really hole any putts, which was a bit frustrating. But if I can hit it as well as I did this morning and then get it going on the greens, I'll be pretty happy."

Of the other notables in the field, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington were unable to start their second rounds - while Louis Oosthuizen sits at level par with six holes still left to play.
