Lawrie makes his move, Rose implodes

Paul Lawrie moved to the top of the leaderboard after two rounds of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, but Justin Rose will not be pressing for the title at the weekend after a horror day in Sun City.

Eleven of the twelve players, including Rose, were within three shots of the lead after round one. That's not the case at the halfway stage.

Rose's challenge fell away with a horror round of 79, He failed to replicate the brilliance of his runner-up effort at the DP World Tour Championship as he carded four bogeys and a triple bogey in a round of 79. He now sits at eight-over and last of the 12-man field.

Lawrie made a forward move on the tough Gary Player Country Club course, posting a four-birdie, one-bogey 69 to lift himself to four-under

Martin Kaymer was another player to get to grips with the Sun City layout, posting an impressive 69 to move to three-under.

Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel and Bill Haas, all one-under, are the only other players under-par.

Lee Westwood was well placed at two-under par after 12 holes but some sloppy play coming home set the defending champion back. He hit real trouble at 14, finding a grassy area within a bunker. He was able to limit the damage to one dropped shot. However, he found water with his approach to 17 and a double-bogey saw him sign for a 73 which leaves him at even-par after 36 holes.
