Woods made to rue missed chances as Rose leads

Tiger Woods suffered a frustrating end to his second round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, after two late bogeys marred an otherwise-impressive card.

Consecutive bogeys at the 16th and 17th plus three missed putts within five feet meant Woods, who is chasing an eighth victory at Bay Hill and a possible return to world No. 1, dropped four shots behind playing partner and joint- leader Justin Rose.

Woods - who enters the weekend on five-under - enjoyed a solid front nine, going three-under for the day at the turn following an eagle at the sixth, before gaining on the leading pack with birdies at the 11th and 13th.

However, the turning point came at the par-five 16th; after finding the bunker from his tee-shot, Woods sent his second into the water, the resulting penalty stroke meaning he had to settle for bogey while rival Rose carded a birdie for the outright lead.

On the 18th, Rose only had to make par to keep an overnight lead and looked set to do so after a fine tee-shot down the centre of the fairway. However, a three-putt meant bogey for the world No. 5 and a share of the lead with American Bill Haas on nine-under.

Haas carded an impressive bogey-free round, making four birdies and an eagle to finish six-under for the day and set the overall target alongside the Brit.

John Huh crept under the radar with another consistent round to move to eight-under-par and third overall, while Ken Duke and JJ Henry put themselves in touch of the leaders, both carding seven birdies to move to six-under alongside Jimmy Walker.

Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell narrowly escaped the cut as both suffered inconsistent second rounds. Westwood started slowly after suffering a bogey on the opening hole, and once again it was the Englishman's putting that held him back in Florida, finishing on two-over to sit alongside McDowell.

A bogey at the last for Ian Poulter ruined an otherwise faultless back nine as the world No. 11 carded four birdies on return to the clubhouse; the Englishman sits six shots off the lead.

Vijay Singh posted a bogey-free round to move five-under, while Sergio Garcia endured a mixed second round, an eagle at the sixth was the highlight for the Spaniard.

Elsewhere, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, KJ Choi, Ross Fisher and 2012 FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker all missed the cut.
