12-year-old Ye misses cut but isn't disgraced

Chinese 12-year-old Ye Wo-cheng will not be around for the weekend action at the Volvo China Open after a second round 79 left him at 14-over and 14 shots off the projected cut mark.

The teenager was the talk of golf earlier this week when it emerged he had earned a place in the field and so becoming the youngest player to take part in a European Tour event.

Ye did not disgrace himself in his opening round of 79 and it was a similar story in the second, as he played creditably but found the test under Tour conditions beyond him.

Starting his round aware that he was highly unlikely to make the cut, Ye showed he had a future in the game by carding eight successive pars.

His first dropped shot came on the ninth and his round fell apart coming home. The par-three 13th bit him hard for the second day in a row as a wayward tee shot cost him a double-bogey. And a bogey-bogey finish left him at 14-over.

At the business end, Mikko Ilonen crafted a sizzling, bogey-free round of 63 to move three shots clear of the field at 12-under.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Brett Rumford are the nearest pursuers, while England's Lee Slattery posted a 68 to sit at seven-under.
